What it will do, however, is give you the low-down on any and all DooM-related activities in which I am engaged. So, if you're visiting for the first time, feel free to browse this space using the handy links to the left. For those who have been here before, ignore my ramblings like you usually do, and do whatever the hell you do when you visit. (Please do not piss on the rug on your way out. Remember the Big Lebowski.) .: Link of the Moment In this space I shall endeavor to provide an excape hatch from the life monotonous. To that end I shall seek to unearth diverse and interesting nuggets of trivia, art, humor, and anything else that strikes my fancy. If it happens to be DooM-related, consider that a bonus. The Last of Us is an upcoming post-apocalyptic third-person survival action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation 3. Here is an almost photo-realistic screenshot from the game, where you can see the hairs on the protagonists's beard. In this picture you can see the wonderful play of light and shadow in the atrium of a devastated house. .: 14 December 2019 - Deimos Seven Posted by Rex Claussen at 21:24. Deimos Seven is a vanilla-DooM-compatible map intended for single player use, and fills Episode 2 Map 7 of The Ultimate DooM. In keeping with the difficulty level of the original DooM levels, this is somewhat moderate in the challenge it presents. It is a non-linear map that offers alternative paths, visible areas that may only be accessed later, and some back-tracking. Three Ways to Die is a single map for DooM II that plays on Map 27. It is based on Snowball's Chance in Hell , which I released for The Ultimate DooM in 2011. This version features 3 different progressions, depending on skill level chosen. Weapons, keys, and power-ups are also placed in different locations. All skill levels pose a reasonable challenge, and many fights are different, lending this map some replay value. The game may be downloaded here . The textfile may be reviewed here . Welp, the game is now in the hands of beta-testers. I speak, of course, of By the Pricking of My thumbs .... , my 11-map set that is fully compatible with vanilla DooM. I'm hoping for a November release. November 2017, that is. Meanwhile, I've tallied up my various mods, and with this game my total has reached 132 maps. Precious little to show for years in this grind, if you ask me. But that's the price one pays for a shot at 15 seconds of fame. [On a related note, my 10-map mod, Temple of the Ancients: Redux, is still in the wings, awaiting its cue to get on stage. But that's a different story for a different time.] EDIT: The game has been released. The game may be downloaded here . The textfile may be reviewed here . Here are some more pics: 6 Comments .: 2 November 2017 - By the Pricking of My Thumbs ...... Posted by Rex Claussen at 05:14. Wicked_0 (By the Pricking of My Thumbs) is the latest in my "Wicked" series of maps, each of which is intended to be fully compatible with vanilla and chocolate DooM and uses no custom resources. It consists of 11 maps. All development aspects (mapping, gameplay, alpha-testing) of the game are complete. I have asked Ed the Bat to implement multi-player gameplay into the game, but his real-life schedule may not allow him to get to it soon. I will also ask people to beta-test the game, and then release it. My alpha testing of the game suggests that there may be a bit too much ammo in each map, and health may be a bit tight. Of course, knowing how each map is supposed to play out, allows me to conserve ammo and use the right kind of ammo. Let's see what the beta-testers say. The levels are intended to be an homage to the original 10 maps of DooM2. I have used comparable texturing, some of the geometry resembles that of the originals, and the enemy types are consistent. However, the map design of each map is completely different from the originals, the progression is different, and the gameplay (particularly traps, etc.) varies significantly. It's as if UAC's competitors stole incomplete parts of UAC's plans, and built their own bases on the other side of the planet. Silly rabbit. DooM is not for amateurs. 0 Comments .: 10 July 2017 - And Now For Something Completely Different .... Posted by Rex Claussen at 09:40. On January 6, 2012 I said the following: "....a couple of weeks ago I started work on an episode-length mod for vanilla DooM2, and have completed about half of one map." And then on January 26, 2012 I said: "I have also made quite a bit of progress on my vanilla DooM2 map set. I've tentatively named it By The Pricking of My Thumbs ...." Well, I'm pleased to report that I am turning the corner to finishing the mod, which is designed to be fully compatible with vanilla/Chocolate DooM. All mapping and gameplay has been completed for Maps01-07 & Maps 09-11. I have completed alpha testing for most of the maps, and will be asking for beta-testers when the project is ready. Meanwhile, here is the obligatory Ike-Andy: The rest of the pics are here . 0 Comments .: 31 March 2017 - Paranoiac Released Posted by Rex Claussen at 13:35. Paranoiac , the sequel to Paranoid is complete and available for download. Text file for Paranoiac Important information to play Paranoiac Download Paranoiac 2 Comments .: 28 March 2017 - Ready ..... Set ...... WTF? Posted by Rex Claussen at 05:08. So Paranoiac has been largely ready for release for a couple of weeks now. The game was tweaked in several ways, including imparting a very cool new freezer damage effect, courtesy of Rachael and Gez. Meanwhile, Ed the Bat and Rachael patiently tested the game in co-op mode, and we have made some modifications to the game to facilitate co-op gameplay. Unfortunately, the orbiting islands in the Xen maps and the moving platform in Map 23 don't yet seem to be set up for multi-player use. Therefore, we will be releasing the game as a single-player experience first. [Subsequently, we will update the game to be fully compatible with co-op mode. We are also looking to update the original Paranoid to accommodate the many GZDooM changes that have occurred since our game's release in 2010.] But after the release of GZDooM 2.4.0 we discovered that most combinations of sector light mode and fog mode (in GZDooM's GL options) create visual glitches in a couple of maps; they do not affect gameplay. Although a few combinations will get rid of the glitches, we have decided to wait a few days to see if an updated version of GZDooM to fix these problems is forthcoming. If an updated version will not happen, look for the game's release later this week. 0 Comments .: 13 February 2017 - Paranoiac: Slight Hiccup in Release Posted by Rex Claussen at 12:22. Paranoiac has been largely ready for release for about a week now. However, the latest round of beta-testing has revealed a couple of minor, cosmetic issues. These don't occur with v2.3.2 of GZDooM (the latest official release) but occur with the newest development build of GZDo...
